Dysplasie

The diseases more especially meet for the labrador are the hip and elbow dysplasie
Our dogs have been x-rayed and we only breed with dogs who are free of hip- and elbowdysplasie. You must now that the hips and elbows dysplasie are not only hereditary problems but can also come with environemental conditions such as a dog carrying too much weight, puppy doing too much exercices (he must play and run at his own rhythm). No jogging with you before that he has finished his growth.
A food of good quality is also very important and will contribute to an harmonious growth of the puppies.

care

It’s not necessary to wash your labrador too frequently (2 times a year is enough), when you wash him be carefull to always use shampoo for dogs (shampoo for humans are not good as the Ph of the skin of the dog is not the same). Your labrador has an undercoat, typical of the breed, who protects him of the cold and of the humidity. You’ll see also that is a coat “self-washing” as when you go to walk otside when the weather is muddy, he’ll surely come at home not very proper, but after 1 hour, when he’s dry again, the mud is on your floor and not more on your dog!

The labrador has time to time problems as otitis, it’s good to check his ear and to wash them frequently with appropriate product.
It’s also nice to look the nails of your dog as sometimes if the dog doesn’t walk frequently on hard floor it’s needed to cut them. It’s not easy to do but you can ask your vet to do it when he makes the annual vaccination.
Your puppy has for the moment his first teeth, he will lose them at around 4 months and the adult teeth will come.
You can find teethpasta made especially for dogs to brush their teeth.

Fleas and ticks

In the summer or if you live in a warme country, it’s necessary to protect your dogs against fleas and ticks, we do it from march to october, products as Frontline are very good and protect your dog against the 2.

Neutering

If you don't want to breed with your bitch, the best solution will be to let her neutered before her first season (or  just after). It will protect her form breast cancer and avoid metritis later. For the male, generally it's only advice when you've a dog who is very dominant.

If you want to breed, be sure to take all the information near different breeders, it's not something easy, it costs many times and money and must result of a passion

Eyes diseases

We do also eyes examination, and we only breed with dogs free of eyes diseases (Cataract and pra are the more common)
But the problem of the eyes diseases is that it can occurs only when the dog becomes 4 or 5 years or later, that’s the reason why we do the examination yearly. Now the optigen test is also available for the pra, it's a great step for the breeding as we can know if a dog is a carrier and breed him to a clear dog to avoid to have affected puppies.
